I came that they might have life and have it to the full - John
10:10

The Gabriel Project
“Give thanks to the Lord for he is
good. His mercy endures forever”
The Lord is with me to help me”
Psalm 118.1,7
Your life is not the
same. You're pregnant and probably feeling pretty much alone and
frightened. So many decisions! Right now, you need a friend
you can depend on and trust. Sometimes, friends and family may add
to the confusion. Their suggestions may not "feel" right. You
need someone who can help you face the emotional and spiritual challenges
that come with your decision. Someone who'll listen and support you,
who'll stand by you during and after your pregnancy. You care about
your life and your future.
Someone else cares too. That someone is a Gabriel Angel.
Gabriel Angels are God's
special messengers of hope for you and your baby. Angels aren't
there to judge you, but to encourage and guide. They'll learn about
you and your special needs, and counsel with you about your life choices.
Best of all, they'll be your constant Prayer Companions as you journey to
motherhood.
Why is it called the Gabriel Project?
The name is taken
from the Gospel of Luke. The Angel Gabriel's message is
"Fear not - for God is with you. Nothing is impossible with God."
What is our purpose?
Every 23 seconds a
baby dies from abortion. The woman who decides to abort her child
usually does so because she feels she has no choice - parents, boyfriend,
peers or even husband have threatened to withdraw their support. The
Gabriel Project tries to provide the needed emotional, physical and
spiritual support during pregnancy and after the birth of the baby as long
as help is needed. Relationships are established with members of the
church to bring new hope and comfort to women who are alone. Women we help
are women that choose to keep their baby instead of having an abortion and
include those women that have chosen the loving choice of adoption.
What is our
Mission Statement?
The Gabriel Project
is an outreach program from the Respect Life Office within the Archdiocese
of Miami. For the love of God's children, trained volunteers from
our parishes, called "Gabriel Angels," provide emotional, spiritual, and
material support to women facing crisis pregnancies. Their help is
caring, personal and confidential.
Your Gabriel Angel is your guide, mentor and friend. She is there to
listen to your concerns; pray with you and for you; foster your
relationship with God; encourage your confidence in making good decisions;
share birthing, parenting and adoption information; help you plan for your
health, lifestyle, and future; help you with resources and material
assistance through the Respect Life Office.
The Gabriel
Project is committed to:
-
Offering hope and support to
mothers and fathers who have made the choice for Life;
-
Witnessing to the good news of
God’s salvation through our words and actions;
-
Strengthening families so
children can grow in a happy and healthy home;
-
Growing in our spiritual lives
by responding to God’s will for us;
-
Providing an example to our
children of God’s call to love and serve others.
Friendship and
Emotional Support:
Every mother is assigned an Angel, a woman
who is responsible
for contacting her once a week to see how she doing,
find out if she needs anything and just chat.
Spiritual Support:
Project volunteers pray for the mother and their
families.
The parish clergy are available for counseling
and each mother and her family are invited to become part of the parish
family.
Material Support:
Diapers, baby clothes, cribs, and other baby items
are provided when needed.
Referrals:
Through a network of other local agencies,
referrals are made for services that the Gabriel Project cannot provide.
What Women have said about The Gabriel
Project:
"I couldn't believe that someone I
didn't even know would care about me and my baby."
"My Angel doesn't criticize me; she just listens and offers suggestions.
Someday may I can help someone just
like my Gabriel Angel helped me."
"People said I didn't love my baby if I chose to place him for adoption.
My Gabriel Angel help me see that it was quite the opposite.
I was able to give my baby the
loving choice of life and instead of an abortion. There's no turning
back on abortion. You live with the decision that you killed your baby for
the rest of your life. My Angel helped me throughout the entire adoption
process and
help me see that I did the right thing. I knew it all along.
I'm so happy I did."
